What is Branding anyways?!

Alright, alright. Let’s get clear on something here. Every successful entrepreneur has a brand strategy. They may not label it as that. They may not even consciously know they have one.

But, ultimately, they do. And you should too. Wanna know why? Grab a beverage and let’s get into it.

First, let’s rewind it. Let’s talk about the definition of Brand.

Businessdictionary.com defines it as:

“Unique design, sign, symbol, words, or a combination of these, employed in creating an image that identifies a product and differentiates it from its competitors. Over time, this image becomes associated with a level of credibility, quality, and satisfaction in the consumer's mind (see positioning). Thus brands help harried consumers in crowded and complex marketplace, by standing for certain benefits and value. Legal name for a brand is trademark and, when it identifies or represents a firm, it is called a brand name. See also corporate identity."

Ok, let’s break this one down.

“Unique design, sign, symbol, words, or a combination of these”.

A brand isn’t just your logo yo. It’s a culmination of your written content, your logo, your website, your social media graphics. If you show up in person in your business, then it also includes your personal brand - how you speak, how you dress, your lifestyle. Your brand is every touch point or impression that your target market has with your business. No matter how that content is consumed; whether it be a youtube video, an advert or a post you put in a facebook group.

Right, we’ve gotten that bit out of the way. The next part looks at strategy. The strategy part is how you manage all of this intentionally to ensure that your business shows up in a way that truly reflects what you do AND attracts your target market. From the above quote, this is explained as:

“Creating an image that identifies a product and differentiates it from it’s competitors”.

That’s right; differentiates it from it’s competitors. I hear the noise online that it’s a swamped market, that everyone and their mum is becoming an entrepreneur these days. But let’s get something straight here; if you’re strategically showing up in a way that clearly differentiates you from your competitors, you’re gunna be all good.

The end result is your brand becomes instantly recognisable to your audience. Whether that’s your face, your logo, your brand colours; your target market knows it’s you. That relationship builds up trust and reassurance and makes it sooo much easier for people to buy from you.

But that's not all it does. It also makes it sooooooo much easier for you to create consistent content. Your blog posts, advert copy, website copy, social media posts. You know what to say and how to say it because you’ve gotten crystal clear on who your business is, its purpose and what your target market wants and needs.
